New Willow Wood Shop Opens in Mossley

If you shop in Mossley, why not call into the Willow Wood Hospice shop on Arundel Street. It sells the usual mix of high quality pre-loved items, including clothing for all the family, shoes, bags, toys and more and will be open between 9.30am to 4pm every day except Sunday.

Sharon Hodgkiess, retail operations manager said: “It’s our first ever shop in Mossley and we’re really looking forward to welcoming customers. We’ve already had lots of positive comments from passers-by as we’ve been refurbishing the interior and displaying stock and we can’t wait to get to know our community here.”

The shop has been refitted to a high specification reflecting the quality of the goods on sale. Sharon said: “Our supporters really are wonderful; they ensure we can continue to care for the people of Tameside and Glossop. It’s a staggering fact that eight out of every ten of our patients are cared for by donations; selling donated goods to the value of £25 funds a 30 minute complementary therapy session, while raising £120 covers a full hour of medical care.”

The shop is largely staffed by volunteers, and the Hospice is always looking for people to help. Shop manager Pam said: “Volunteers help us both behind the counter and behind the scenes. There are a number of different roles available from sorting and pricing goods to window dressing and working on the till, so if anyone would like to support us by volunteering just pop in and see me. We can organise a ‘taster’ session with no obligation to take it further if you decide it’s not for you and we provide training and PPE. Volunteering in our shops is not just a great way to help your local hospice, but it’s also a great way to meet new people and become part of our friendly team.”
