Midnight Wander – vote for socially distanced walk!

The much-loved Midnight Wander sponsored walk is back once more. Open to men, women, boys and girls (and dogs!), it’s always been a lot of fun and is a great way to fundraise for Willow Wood. As the name suggests, the walk sets off at midnight and follows a circular route back to Astley Sports Village where a welcome breakfast bap awaits.

“Obviously the pandemic has meant the cancellation of many of our fundraising activities.” Laura Marinelli, event organiser said. “We were unsure what our supporters would prefer, a virtual 10k, where they could walk the distance themselves anytime during September, or meet up at Astley Sports Village on Friday 11 September to have a socially distanced warm up and set off in their own social bubbles. After holding a poll on social media, the vote was 70% in favour of meeting, so that’s what we’re going to do.”

There’s a special early bird discount of 20%, available to those registering online before 24 July, and the fee includes a specially designed T shirt, a medal and a hot sandwich – always enjoyed on completion of the walk.

Laura said: “We welcome dogs on the walk, although they won’t be allowed inside the sports centre, and one of our supporters has already sent in a photo of her dog Ruby all togged up in a pink feather boa and last year’s T shirt! The photo really sums up the spirit of the walk – it’s such an enjoyable occasion. We’re hoping for a massive turnout this year. Please join us and help Willow Wood continue to care.”
