Willow Wood would like to extend a huge thank you to our supporters out in the community who organise fundraising events on behalf of the Hospice.
Two such superstar supporters are Chris & Joanne Hinds who have been organising the Derek Hinds Memorial Quiz and other fundraisers for a number of years now. Joanne visited Willow Wood to present £900 from their latest quiz, held at Curzon Ashton FC on Friday 21 February. In total, over the past eight years, they have raised £14,000 for Willow Wood – a truly magnificent sum.
Elaine McConnell received the cheque on behalf of Willow Wood and said “We’re always proud and humbled by the support of our community and are so grateful to Chris & Joanne for their fundraising. The £900 raised from their latest quiz will pay for our START Clinic for one and a half days, it’s a tremendous achievement and of real benefit to our patients.”
The couple also volunteer at the Hospice. Joanne volunteers on reception and they are both valuable members of the team behind the very successful monthly Coffee Mornings which raise an average of around £1,000 every month and are a mainstay in the fundraising calendar. Held on the first Saturday of the month the Coffee Mornings are very well supported and make for a very pleasant morning. Joanne said, “It’s an ideal opportunity to catch up with friends over a coffee and cake. We hold a raffle every month, there’s bingo and a good variety of stalls selling home-made jam and cakes, books, baby clothes and more. If you’ve never been before you’ll be sure of a warm welcome and we’d love to see you when our doors open at 10am.”
Chris and Joanne are already organising their next fundraiser for Willow Wood – Springmas 2020 which, like the quizzes, is to be held at Curzon Ashton Football Club. Entertainment will be provided by talented local singer Xander and tickets are just £10 including a hot and cold buffet.
Joanne said, “It’s going to be a really good evening and if you’d like tickets please give me a ring on 07772 786704.”
